Mangaluru: In a new revelation, Eta variant of Covid-19 was detected in a person from Mangaluru. The variant was discovered during the time of genome sequencing conducted in a lab for the first time in Karnataka.
The infected person arrived in Moodabidre in Dakshina Kannada from Dubai four months ago. Upon testing, it was found that he was Covid positive. Later, he recovered from the infection and it is known that over 100 people were in his contact list. The sample was sent for further genomic studies by the Department of Health.
As per reports, experts said there are not many studies conducted on the variant till now. The first cases of the variant were found in UK and Nigeria in 2020. Higher number of cases were reported in Nigeria, reports said.
