New Delhi: With Congress down and dusted in 2022 Assembly Elections, the G-23 leaders of the party are likely to meet in the next 48 hours. As the counting of the votes enters its last leg on Thursday evening, the numbers the grand old party has secured are disappointing.
"Upset with results and rapid decline of Congress in the recent Assembly elections, G-23 leaders to convene meet in the next 48 hours," a senior Congress leader said. The Congress has lost Punjab to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and was unable to come to power in Goa, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur.
On his party's disappointing performance, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who is also part of G-23, openly for reform in organisational leadership. "All of us who believe in @INCIndia are hurting from the results of the recent assembly elections. It is time to reaffirm the idea of India that the Congress has stood for and the positive agenda it offers the nation and to reform our organisational leadership in a manner that will reignite those ideas and inspire the people. One thing is clear - Change is unavoidable if we need to succeed," Tharoor tweeted.

In February 2022, the G-23 leaders had questioned the Congress leadership after the exit of senior leader Ashwani Kumar from the party and said that all was not well. Now that the Congress has faced a rout in the 2022 Assemble Elections, the G-23 leaders are expected to snap back especially since the party kept Ghulam Nabi Azad and Manish Tewari out of the list of star campaigners for the Punjab Assembly elections.
The G-23 leaders is a group of 23 Congress leaders including give former Chief Minister who, in 2020, had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi demanding a slew of organizational reforms including elections for CWC members, its president and for the party's Parliamentary Board. G-23 members have on several occasions raised their issues, creating a storm within the party.
