Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal: In what comes as a jolt to the BJP in West Bengal, the wife of a candidate has appealed to the voters in that constituency to vote against her "immoral" husband.
Sharbari Singha Roy, wife of Kaliaganj BJP candidate Soumen Roy, held a press conference on Saturday to 'reveal her husband's character'. Their daughter, too, came out in Sharbari's support.

Sharbari said Soumen had made huge money on a false promise of providing jobs. She also said the BJP candidate had ditched her and their daughter before and started a new family. "Please do not vote for him. He is not fit to be a representative of the people," she said, adding she was not campaigning for any political party.
Soumen has been controversy's favourite child ever since the BJP announced his candidature. Earlier, some party leaders and workers had sat on a hunger strike warning the high command against fielding him.

On Saturday, Sharbari told reporters, "I have repeatedly requested the BJP Central and state leaderships to replace Soumen as the party candidate for Kaliaganj. However, the top brass has continued with his candidature. I don't want the people of Kaliaganj to vote for him. I am not affiliated with any political party. I am from a non-political women's organization. I will, however, campaign against Soumen."
Marital dispute has turned out to be a hot topic during the Assembly elections in Bengal. Earlier, issues between BJP candidates Soumitra Khan and his wife Sujata Mondal, and Shovon Chatterjee and his wife Ratna Chatterjee, too, made news.
