New Delhi: In a bizarre incident, a domestic passenger in the United States was flown to an international destination and that too without a passport. The passenger, Beverly Ellis-Hebard boarded a flight thinking it to be Jacksonville-bound, but landed 900 miles away from her destination in Jamaica. The woman said there was a gate change when she was in the washroom that led her to board the wrong flight.

The Ellis-Hebard from New Jersey told she was a regular passenger from Philadelphia to Jacksonville, which was her second home. But, the journey on November 6 was different from all her previous ones. Ellis-Hebard said she thought she was boarding Frontier Airlines when she saw the board PHL to JAX at the gate.

Before boarding the flight she went to the washroom. When she returned sometime later, she found that the flight was almost packed and the door was about to be shut. She rushed inside the plane and had even hurt her arm as she hurriedly put her luggage in the cabinet. The gate agent called her by her name and asked for her boarding pass. Ellis-Hebard replied that she had already handed over her boarding pass and the gate agent asked her to get inside.

Soon Ellis-Hebard realised that she had not boarded the Jacksonville flight and was instead heading for Jamaica instead of Florida. She started to panic as she was not carrying her passport since she was supposed to travel on a domestic flight. After landing, she was allowed to stay in the jetway while the crew waited with her till her next flight to Philadelphia departed a few hours later. A spokesperson of Frontier Airlines apologised for the mistake. The airline refunded her original ticket and gave her a $ 600 voucher as compensation.
