New Delhi: After eighth round of talks between farmers and the Central Government failed to find a solution over the three controversial farm laws, the Congress party on Friday slammed the Modi Government for 'dividing' the farmers protest on regional lines. The opposition party termed the central government delaying in accepting the farmers' demand is their 'strategy'.

In a poetic tweet in Hindi, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, "Whose intention is not clear, their strategy is to give date after date."

Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Anand Sharma asserted that the protest of farmers is for their survival and the Government should not "belittle" their fight by terming it regional.

He said in his tweet, "Our farmers are fighting for justice and deserve compassion & sensitive understanding, not merely technical reading of rules. The government and the Hon’ble Supreme Court must understand that while farmers will survive COVID, their Satyagrah is for their very survival."

He also slammed the Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, saying, "The Minister for Agriculture claims he is speaking for farmers of the country, not just Punjab and Haryana. The Minister should answer the fundamental question- which farmer of the country does not want MSP? Is the fair price for their produce not the right of every farmer?"

He even mentioned the freedom fight at Khera, Champaran to Bardoli which brought down the mighty British empire and said that the government’s attempt to divide farmers into state lines will not break their ranks.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to Facebook to express her anguish over the matter, saying, "We will celebrate our Republic Day on 26th January 2020. Whenever we recite Jana Gana Mana of our country, it becomes necessary to mention farmers in it. The slogan of the 'self-sufficient' of which the BJP government is adopted now, farmers took part in the Green Revolution and made India self-sufficient in food grains long ago. This country cannot be imagined without farmers."

She further added, "Today, this country has to think whether farm laws will be made from farmers' fields or in the drawing-room of a few billionaire friends of BJP government. The farmers of this country, many MPs and MLAs who have made the laws of this country and crores of common people have declared these laws being imposed on the farmers as undemocratic and against the farmers."

Priyanka Gandhi asserted that the only way to end this deadlock against the three farm laws is to repeal them. Earlier today, she also had a meeting with Punjab Congress MPs and MLAs, who are sitting on a dharna at Jantar Mantar for over a month, seeking the repeal of the three farm laws.

Just after the farmers meeting concluded with Center, Congress Chief spokesperson and General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted, “The Modi government has proved to be the most inhuman, egotistical and ruthless in the history of India. It can neither see farmers dying daily in the bitter cold weather not can it see the economy to a standstill. By playing a game of holding meetings, the Centre is trying to wear them out. Farmers will neither tire nor now down or stop.”
