Bengaluru: Seven people including the son of a DMK MLA from Hosur in Tamil Nadu were killed in a road accident in Bengaluru in the wee hours of Tuesday. The accident took place around 1.30 am when the Audi car they were travelling in rammed into a pole on the footpath and dashed against the wall of a building near Mangala convention hall at Koramangala in the city.
According to the police, the deceased are identified as Karuna Sagar, son of Hosur MLA Y Prakash, his fiancee Bindu (28), Ishita (21), Dr Danusha (21), Akshay Goyal (23), Utsav and Rohit (23).
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr B R Ravikanthe Gowda, while speaking to reporters after inspecting the accident, said "Preliminary investigations reveal the accident occurred due to the driver's negligence. None of them were wearing a seatbelt. The airbag did not open when the accident occurred resulting in the death of all the passengers. Three were seated in the front and four in the back seats. Six of them died on the spot and one succumbed at the hospital." A case in connection with the accident has been registered at the Adugodi traffic police station.
According to the officials, Karuna Sagar had come to Bangalore on Monday to purchase building materials. Akshay Goyal hailed from Kerala, Utsav from Haryana and Rohith from Hubballi. The bodies have been shifted to the mortuary of a private hospital at Koramangala for post-mortem.
The car was completely damaged in the accident. A CCTV footage of the horrific accident has gone viral on social media.
