New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday took oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the third consecutive term.

The West Bengal Assembly election has been mired in violence with continued reports of the attack on party members and there has been an escalation since poll results were declared on May 2.

Political workers, including those of the BJP, have alleged attacks by opponents since the announcement of election results for the 292-member West Bengal assembly where the ruling Trinamool Congress emerged victoriously.

Speaking exclusively with ETV Bharat, Gopal Krishna Agarwal said," The manner in which massacre and brutal killings took place and the manner in which the acting chief minister stayed silent for 36 hours speaks of her involvement. BJP will not tolerate such bloodied politics--done just for power. BJP will not tolerate political oppression being done on the people of Bengal."

"The way violent attacks on our activists, atrocities on women and incidents of rape are being done by TMC goons. It is a shame for Bengal, and for the whole country. I condemn the brutal killings which have taken place after the results. We also stand by the people of Bengal and all citizens residing in Bengal with whom such incidents took place," Agarwal said.

"Our Karyakartas have suffered tremendous violence perpetrated by TMC in Pratapnagar and Sonarpur in West Bengal. We will put all these things in front of the people and provide justice to every Karyakarta in a fair manner. Our leadership has fully assured the victims that whatever the help and support they require will be done by our party and will try their best to bring them justice," he said.

Mamata Banerjee was administered the oath by Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and the latter also said that their first priority is to stop or end the worrisome violence which erupted in the state after the elections.

"I congratulate Mamata Ji on her third term. Our priority is that we must bring an end to this senseless violence that has affected society at large. I have every hope that the CM on an urgent basis will take all steps to restore rule of law," said Dhankhar.

Notably, Mamata became the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the first time in 2011 by ending the 34-year-long CPI(M) regime, one of the longest-serving elected governments in the world. After ruling the state for two successive terms, the game of thrown of 2021 was not less than a do-or-die situation for her.
