Kejriwal government is setting up efforts to ensure that the inoculation drive is carried out smoothly in the national capital. The state government has decided to increase the number of vaccination centers.

New Delhi: Amid the vaccine shortage in the national capital, the Delhi government is trying to step up efforts to ensure that the COVID-19 vaccination is carried out smoothly.

State health minister Satyendra Jain said that the national capital is facing a shortage of COVID vaccines but the government has done other preparations for the drive.

The Delhi government has decided to increase the number of vaccination centers across the state and the already operational centers will continue to function as vaccination centers.

At present, the dispensary center situated at Babar Road which is inoculating people above 45 years of age and also has a provision of a walk-in facility.

People who are 45 years of age or above are not required to register themselves in advance for taking the jab. The government in an attempt to liberate the vaccination policy has also allowed people to book the slot timings in advance for the inoculation.

However, people who are 18 years and above will be required to register themselves in advance.

Vaccinator Shabnam told ETV Bharat, "Youth are still apprehensive about how the vaccination drive will go and have been asking that whether they will be inoculated from May 1."

Vaccinating officer Rohit Rana said that youth can register themselves via the Cowin app.

Till date, 31,01, 562 people have been inoculated in Delhi out of which 24,82,778 people have received their first dose and 6,18,784 people have got their second dose. In the last 24 hours, 51,718 people received the jab. Out of 51,718 people, 32,272 people received the first dose of the vaccine and 19,446 people got their second dose of vaccine.

A day ahead of the launch of the third phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday appealed to residents of the city not to queue up at vaccination centers as vaccines have not yet been received.
