New Delhi: Amid the rising pollution the Delhi government has imposed a complete ban on the sale, purchase and use of firecrackers in the national capital this year as well, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said.

Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said that, "In view of the dangerous condition of Delhi's pollution during Diwali for the last 3 years, like last year, a complete ban is being imposed on the storage, sale and use of all types of firecrackers. So that people's lives can be saved," tweet roughly translated from Hindi.

Last year also a complete ban was imposed on the firecrackers.

However, the Supreme Court in March had asked why people were "running after" the firecracker industry when it seems vehicles are a "bigger" source of pollution.

It had also asked the Centre if there is any comparative study on the "proportion of pollution" caused by firecrackers and automobiles.

The bench was hearing a plea that has sought a complete ban on the use of firecrackers across India on the ground that it gives rise to pollution.
