Delhi restaurant that denied entry to saree-clad woman shut for lack of license

The Aquila Restaurant, located in Ansal Plaza, got embroiled in a controversy over not allowing entry to a woman in a saree, has closed down as the owner didn't possess a valid health trade license.

New Delhi: The Aquila Restaurant, located in Ansal Plaza, got embroiled in a controversy over not allowing entry to a woman in a saree, has closed down as the owner didn't possess a valid health trade license.

Recently, when the information about the saree dispute went viral, the license issuing agency, South MCD searched the records of the Aquila Restaurant, found that the establishment was running without a valid license and issued a notice to close it.

After receiving the notice from the Health Department of South MCD, Kunal Chhabra, on behalf of Aquila Restaurant, admitted that they didn't have a valid license to run the restaurant and said that the restaurant is shut for now. In this regard, the restaurant operator has also submitted an affidavit along with the closure notice received from MCD.

Earlier, a woman who arrived wearing a saree in Aquila Restaurant was not allowed to enter. She made a video that went viral on social media and led to severe backlash for the restaurant. In the video, one of the restaurant staff can be heard saying that they only allow people wearing smart casuals and sarees do not come under smart casuals category. Following the viral video on social media, people are demanding strict action against such people and social boycotting of the restaurant.
