Guna (Madhya Pradesh): Family members of a 63-year-old man, who reportedly died due to COVID-19 at Guna district Hospital, allegedly attacked the staff and attempted to shut the main valve of the oxygen supply to the facility.
However, the hospital staff stopped the angry members of the bereaved family from closing the oxygen valve.
"If he had succeeded in closing it, it would have ended in the death of at least 22 patients who are undergoing treatment at the hospital," said an official at the hospital.
According to the reports, a covid infected patient R D Srivastava died at the hospital on Saturday. When the hospital staff informed the family, they allegedly attacked the staff of the healthcare facility.
"We were provided him the best possible treatment. Unfortunately, the patient died around 5 am, following which his family members resorted to vandalism, destruction of hospital property and assaulted our doctors and staff," alleged Dr. Pankaj.
Earlier in a similar incident, the family members of a Covid infected woman who died after failing to get a bed at Apollo Hospital in south Delhi attacked the staff of the private healthcare facility on Tuesday.
With India struggling to tackle the rising Covid-19 caseload, the country, for the first time reported more than 4 lakh new infections in the last 24 hours.
A total of 4,01,993 fresh COVID-19 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 1,91,64,969, the Union Health Ministry reported on Saturday.
