Dalit sarpanch beaten up for hoisting national flag

A case of assault on a sarpanch for hoisting the national flag has come to light at Dhamchi village in Chhatarpur. The allegation of assault is against the secretary of the village panchayat itself.

Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh): The country is celebrating the 75th anniversary of independence but it is still facing the brunt of casteism. The latest such incident happened in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. A case of assault on a sarpanch and his family for hoisting the tricolor at Dhamchi village in Chhatarpur has come to light. The allegations of assault are against the panchayat secretary.

Hannu Basor, the sarpanch of Dhamchi village, has alleged that village secretary Sunil Tiwari beat him up. When the sarpanch hoisted the flag without waiting for the secretary, the latter. upon reaching the spot, beat up the sarpanch and his family. Tiwari has been accused of assaulting the sarpanch, his wife and daughter-in-law.

After the incident, the sarpanch, his wife and the people of the village reached the Orchha police station and demanded action against the secretary. As soon as the incident came to light, Dalit leaders also reached the police station and demanded action against the accused under the SC, ST Act.

Chief Superintendent of Police Lokendra Singh said that a case of assault by the secretary on the sarpanch has been registered. Apart from the SC, ST Act, a cases have also been registered under some other sections as well.
