Varanasi: Customs authorities at Lal Bahadur Shastri International (LBSI) airport in Varanasi seized gold weighing 333.65 grams and one iPhone from a woman passenger who arrived from Sharjah. The custom officials recovered the gold from the inner walls of a deodorant bottle, steel flasks and also from a pearl necklace found on the passenger.
According to authorities at the airport, the recovered gold was worth Rs 16,71,631. An iPhone seized from the passenger put the total value of recovered goods over Rs 17 lakh, they added.
"136 pieces of small nickel-coated gold rings were also used between each pair of beads in a chain apart from gold Payal coated with grey metal, gold bangles, and earring," Central Customs department said in a statement.
