Ludhiana (Punjab): While the entire state of Punjab grappled with the coronavirus, Ludhiana, which is among the six worst-affected districts of the state has reported 24 deaths in the last 24 hours.

However, the official claim seems to be 'fictitious' as 41 people were either cremated or buried in the district in the last 24 hours.

According to the state health bulletin, Punjab had on Thursday reported 138 more deaths, pushing the toll to 8,909, while 6,812 fresh cases took the infection count to 3,64,910 in the state.

The state health department said among the six worst-hit districts, Mohali, Jalandhar and Ludhiana were doing well in terms of vaccination, while Amritsar, Bathinda, Patiala were running short of targets. The chief minister directed these three districts to step up efforts.

Meanwhile, state health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu indicated that the vaccination drive for all above 18 years of age in Punjab may get delayed as they do not have adequate doses of anti-COVID vaccine.

Earlier, the state had complained of a shortage of vaccine for people above the 45-plus age group category and had urged the Centre to give 15 lakh doses a week for the state.
