New Delhi: As coronavirus cases have seen a steep rise in the country, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha on Friday urged the Centre to take suggestions from the Opposition and health experts to control the second wave of the pandemic.
On Friday, India reported its highest-ever single-day spike in COVID-19 cases with over 2.17 lakh new cases and more than 1,100 deaths in the last 24 hours. At least 1,185 COVID-related deaths were reported in the country, taking the death toll to 1,74,308.
Commenting over the deaths due to the deadly virus, the RJD MP further said that the condition of crematoriums in worst-affected states such as Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh are quite horrific and worrisome for the government.
"We have seen that the mortuaries have been overcrowded with bodies. Even, the relatives of the deceased have to wait for 7-8 hours to get the body cremated. This is an alarming situation. We need to go back to the drawing board to deal with the second wave", Jha said.
The active number of cases stands at 15,69,743. In the last 24 hours, 1,18,302 people recovered from the disease. With this, the total recoveries reached 1,25,47,866.
