New Delhi: The Delhi High Court will today hear a plea challenging Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's decision to recognise Pashupati Kumar Paras as the leader of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) in the House.

Chirag Pawan, the former chief of the LJP and the party founder Ram Vilas Paswan's son, had on Wednesday approached the High Court challenging the Speaker's decision to consider his uncle and Ram Vilas' brother Paras as the leader of party in the House. Advocate Arvind Bajpai had filed the petition on behalf of Chirag challenging this decision.

In the petition, Chirag's counsel mentioned that Paras was chosen as the leader of the party in the House despite his suspension as a parliamentarian. The petition also sought setting aside the Speaker's June 14 circular that showed Paras as the leader of LJP in addition to seeking a corrigendum highlighting Chirag as leader of the party.

Chirag had earlier accused Paras of violating the party's Constitution and that the latter had already been expelled from the party for "betraying" its leadership.
