Anantapur (AP): Quite often policemen may have rugged looks, but what we tend to overlook is their other side. In a show of humanity, Venkatesh, a constable who works as a constable in a police station close to the Kasapuram Anjaneyaswamy Temple in the district, along with his spouse provide home-cooked food to over 350 stray dogs. What's even more, is the duo has been doing the service for nearly 22-years.
The couple is so fond of canines that they are unable to bear the sight of these animals starving. They have converted a room in their house into a full-fledged kitchen to cook food for the strays.

The constable's wife, Jayamma, with the help of another assistant, cooks biryani for these dogs on a daily basis. After the cooking is done, the couple then go on their two-wheeler and feed the dogs. They spend nearly Rs. 30,000 monthly from their earnings.
As soon as dogs hear the sound of Venkatesh's bike, they immediately surround the two-wheeler.

"Not only do the couple provide food daily, but they also ensure that the strays are in good health. They take them to a veterinarian in case they fall sick. They also purchase necessary medicines. Everyone praises the couple for feeding the street dogs," says Tyagaraja, a retired assistant sub-inspector.
Reportedly, Venkatesh has so far not taken donations from anyone nor did he seek any financial assistance to feed the strays. He has been doing the service all these years by spending his own money.
