Congress says PM congratulated Pakistan last year, but now for elections taking refuge in Partition

In a statement released by Congress' Chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, "the preparations for the Uttar Pradesh elections have been started by the Prime Minister. Modi Ji has again started to prepare on his divisive agenda. It seems, preparations are in full swing to repeat the ‘Shamshan- Kabristan’ drama in view of the impending UP Elections."

New Delhi: As Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, announced that August 14 will be celebrated as "Partition Remembrance Horror Day", Congress party took a jibe at him saying that last year he was congratulating Pakistan and because of the upcoming elections, he is remembering Partition.

"When there are no elections, Modi Ji expresses his love for Pakistan, as soon as the elections come, he takes refuge in the name of Pakistan," Surjewala said recalling Modi's to Imran Khan on March 22 in which he expressed 'best wishes to all Pakistani's on the occasion of "Pakistani day".

Surjewala mentioned that on this day in 1940, in the Lahore session of the All India Muslim League, which lasted from 22 March to 24, the Lahore Resolution (also known as 'Qarardad-e-Pakistan' i.e. conceptualisation of Pakistan) was proposed, on the basis of which the Muslim League started the movement for a separate country.

"Now imagine that the Prime Minister of India congratulates Pakistan on this day on 22 March and sheds crocodile tears in India for electoral gains," he alleged.

Surjewala also stated that the leader of Muslim League in 1940, Fazlul Haq, who had read the proposal for the partition of India, the foundation stone of BJP, Syama Prasad Mukherjee formed government in Bengal in 1942 under the patronage of British rule. "This step chalked out the outlines of the opposition to the Congress led ‘British Quit India Movement’," he added.

"The story of Modi Ji's double standards is not new. Modi Ji has always been congratulating Pakistan on 14th August. Since today they are standing on the verge of defeat in the elections of Uttar Pradesh, they find no better solution than this."

"Going to Pakistan to have a feast, the infamous invitation to ISI into our country and as soon as the elections come, they repeat their usual slogan of partition. Recall that after the Pakistan sponsored militant attack on the Pathankot airbase, the Modi government had invited the infamous ISI of Pakistan to investigate that attack. Whereas the truth is that the Pathankot terrorist attack was carried out by the ISI," he further alleged.

"The truth is that the BJP is taking vengeance from history, but tell us what they are contributing to the present?" he asked.

Congress' senior leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh also took a dig at PM over the matter, by tweeting, "Mr.M is the ustad of doublespeak and hypocrisy. He offers platitudes while he and the toxic ecosystem he has nurtured do everything to polarise and divide, to spread venom and hate, and to use fear and intimidation as instruments of grabbing power and derailing governance."
