New Delhi: Indian Youth Congress on Wednesday held a symbolic protest against the rising prices of petrol and diesel and has sought an immediate rollback of the hike in excise duty from the Central government.
Youth Congress members protested outside the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas located near Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi.
While speaking to media, IYC spokesperson Rahul Rao asserted that even after a sharp fall in the prices of crude oil in the international market the general public is not getting the benefit of it. He also said that the common man is disturbed by economic recession and unemployment during the coronavirus outbreak and hence Petrol-diesel price hike has put more pressure on their pockets.
IYC in charge and AICC General Secretary Krishna Allavaru said in his statement that the rising petrol and diesel prices are a direct attack on the general public and it is very shameful that this government has not met any of its promises.
"We demand that Prime Minister should stop this loot as soon as possible and give relief to the public," he added.
On Tuesday, petrol prices had crossed ₹85 per litre in Delhi, beating its own record for the fifth time in less than two weeks since January 7. Meanwhile, diesel has surged to a record ₹82.13 per litre in Mumbai.
