New Delhi: Formulating programmes for a year-long celebration of the 75th year of Independence, a committee formed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi met on Tuesday at former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's residence in Delhi. The celebration will begin on October 2 and the party has planned to make an encyclopedia of all freedom fighters. Congress leaders AK Antony, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Meira Kumar, Ambika Soni, Pramod Tiwari, Bhupinder Hooda and Mukul Wasnik attended the meeting.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said, "We want to portray the right picture of our history in front of today's young generation." Tiwari added that the current government has been portraying the wrong history nowadays. The leaders have decided to form sub-committees to discuss the matter as well as for planning and coordination of celebration.

Veteran Congress leader Meira Kumar said, "We are trying to make an encyclopedia of all freedom fighters across the country for paying tribute to them. The celebration will be held in each and every district of this country to pay tribute to those women, Dalits, Adivasi, minorities, who have contributed in attaining independence in the country."
Ambika Soni said that Dr Manmohan Singh will take a final call on the suggestions put forth by committee members during prolonged discussion. Central Government had also announced that the 75th year of independence will be celebrated as 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' with a series of celebrations to mark the anniversary.
