Chhattisgarh: Drunk caretaker and watchman rape specially-abled girl

A 15-yr old specially-abled girl was raped while 5 other girls residing in 'Samarth residential training centre for divyaang' were sexually assaulted in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur town. The incident had taken place on the intervening night of 22-23 September. A drunk caretaker and watchman who have been accused are now in police custody.

Jashpur (Chhattisgarh): A 15-yr old specially-abled girl was raped while 5 other girls residing in 'Samarth residential training centre for divyaang' were allegedly sexually assaulted in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur town. The incident had taken place on the intervening night of 22-23 September. A drunk caretaker and watchman who have been accused are now in police custody.

Additional SP Pratibha Pandey said that it has been confirmed in the investigation that the accused caretaker Narendra Bhagat had raped a specially-abled girl, while the other accused watchman Rajesh Ram had molested five girls.

The official further said that after the statement and medical examination of the victims, a case has been registered against both the accused under sections 376 and 354 of the IPC. The accused have been taken into custody and are being interrogated.

According to police, caretaker Rajesh Ram and watchman Narendra Bhagat were responsible for the safety of the children in the Samarth Divyang Kendra run by Rajiv Gandhi Education Mission. However, the accused took advantage of the absence of the hostel superintendent and carried out the heinous act. The accused had even torn the clothes of the children.

There are a total of 22 specially-abled children and 12 girls living in the residential building.
