New Delhi: The Centre is set to take up as many as 31 bills, including two related to finance, during the Monsoon Session of Parliament that will commence from Monday. Of these, the Centre has proposed to bring 29 Bills, including six on Ordinances which were passed after the Budget Session, and two legislations related to finance during this session.
"The sixth session of the 17th Lok Sabha will commence on July 19. Subject to exigencies of government business, the session is likely to conclude on August 13," a Lok Sabha release stated. A press communique from the Rajya Sabha stated that President Ram Nath Kovind has summoned the House to meet on July 19 and the session will continue till August 13. This will be Parliament's first session since the formation of the new governments in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. Last year, the Monsoon Session began in September and the Winter Session was not held due to the COVID-19 situation.
Among the bills, Tribunal Reforms (Rationalisation and Conditions of Service) Bill, 2021, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2021, Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Bill, 2021, Essential Defence Service Bill, 2021, Indian Medicine Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill, 2021, will replace the ordinances already issued since the last session.

The Monsoon Session is expected to have a total of 19 sittings until August 13. During this period, 31 government business items (including 29 bills and 2 financial items) will be taken up. Six bills will be brought to replace the ordinances. The session will be held from 11 am to 6 pm with one-hour lunch break. Four days have been allotted for the transaction of private members business, which is taken up in the post-lunch session. The Speaker has also allocated days for answering questions by ministers in the rotational order.
