New Delhi: As many as 30 districts across India have been a matter of concern for the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) as these places have been showing a continuous increase in Covid19 cases in the last two weeks.
Statistics from the health ministry said that Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru and Tumakuru in Karnataka, Chennai in Tamil Nadu, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Palakkad, Kollam and Kannur in Kerala, Satara and Solapur in Maharashtra, Gurugram and Faridabad in Haryana, Patna in Bihar, 24 Parganas North, Kolkata in West Bengal, Chittoor, East Godavari, Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Guntur and Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh, Dehradun in Uttarakhand and Khordha and Odisha have been reporting an increasing number of cases for the last two weeks.
The health ministry said that Bengaluru Urban in Karnataka is the only district that has been reporting more than 1 lakh cases on a 7-day average. Between 22-28 April the district reported 126,672 Covid cases and between April 29-May 5 it recorded 153,071 Covid cases.
All other districts with maximum Covid load cases registered 41000 to 11000 in the last week.

Aware of the scenario, senior officials from the health ministry have been in constant touch with the state government officials and keep reviewing the situation.
On Friday also, union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan had a video conferencing with the government officials in high caseload states and urged them to implement strict lockdown “whenever required.”
Bhushan emphasized that along with vaccination, maintaining Covid 19 appropriate behaviour is also very critical.
In another review meeting, Union Health Ministry reviewed the COVID-19 situation and management with 8 States - Assam, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh

“The review focused on containment strategies, testing infrastructure and healthcare infrastructure augmentation, availability of trained human resource, availability and supply of Medical Oxygen, ventilators and other logistics and improving the vaccination coverage,” an official from the health ministry said.
As of Friday, as many as 12 states have more than 1 lakh active Covid cases whereas 24 states have a Covid positivity rate of more than 15 percent.
