India urges six states to improve vaccination rate

The Central government on Thursday asked six states which have recorded less than 21 percent vaccination in the last 13 days, to speed up the COVID vaccination rate. The six states have recorded less than 21 per cent vaccination in the last 13 days.

New Delhi: The central government on Thursday asked Delhi, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Maharastra to increase the percentage of Covid19 vaccination.

The six states have recorded less than 21 per cent vaccination in the last 13 days.

Health Secretary Rajesh Bhusan informed that Maharastra recorded 20.7 per cent vaccination, followed by Chhattisgarh 20.6 per cent, Uttarakhand 17.1 per cent, Tamil Nadu 15.7 per cent, Delhi 15.7 per cent and Jharkhand recorded 14.7 per cent vaccination till date.

"These are the big states which really need improvement the vaccination rate and for this, we are in constant touch with the state government," said Bhushan.

He said that 11 states and UTs including Lakshadweep (83.4 per cent vaccination), Odisha (50.7 per cent), Haryana (50.0 per cent), Andaman and Nicobar Island (48.3 per cent), Rajasthan (46.8 per cent), Tripura (45.6 per cent), Mizoram (40.5 per cent), Telangana (40.3 per cent), Andhra Pradesh (38.1 per cent), Karnataka (35.6 per cent) and Madhya Pradesh recorded 35.5 per cent vaccination till date.

He added that till January 28, as many as 2,507,556 beneficiaries have been vaccinated.

India comes in number 5 in the global scenario as far as vaccination is concerned. "In last 11 days we have covered 2.03 million vaccination," Bhushan said.

Giving more details, Bhushan said that Kerala with 41.74 per cent and Maharastra with 67 per cent bear the maximum active Covid cases in the country.

The health secretary said that India's active cases have come down to less than 1.75 lakh after 7 months.

"Daily number of deaths is less than 125 after 8 months and declining. Cumulative positivity rate is 5.51 per cent at present and declining," Bhushan said.
