Jaipur/New Delhi: As farmers continue to camp at Delhi’s borders demanding a repeal of the three farm laws, a group of farmers from Rajasthan led by Swaraj India chief Yogendra Yadav have staged a dharna on the Delhi-Rajasthan border on Thursday.
The protesters raised slogans against the Centre for enacting, what they described as, three “anti-farmer” laws. They said protesting peacefully was the democratic right of every citizen.
In an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, Swaraj India chief Yogendra Yadav said that Central government is misinterpreting the farmers' protest and the fail negotiations between the government and farmers, is due to the centre's unwillingness to understand the farmers' demand.
"The fail negotiations between the government and farmers, who want new farm laws to be withdrawn, was due to the centre's unwillingness to understand the farmers' demand. When the protest started, the government said that only the farmers of Punjab are protesting. After some days they said, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab farmers are protesting. It clearly interprets that government does not know the truth that every Indian farmer wants to join this protest and they are not coming due to the cancellation of the passenger train," Yadav said.
"Farmers affiliated to different farmer organisations are reaching Shahjahapur border and they want the government to repeal the new farm laws. There are only farmers who are agitating here and such a big movement has run very moderately. There is resentment among these people present here, but it is not an anti-social element," he said.
"The next round of talks is scheduled to take place on January 4. If there will be no conclusion on January 4, then we will take this movement to a greater level which will be given a national shape," he added.
Notably, the sixth round of talks between the Centre and farmers' union leaders concluded on Wednesday evening. The two sides extensively discussed issues related to the three contentious farm laws. While the Union ministers were firm on backing the laws, farmers' representative demanded to repeal them.
