Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the unnatural death of BJP leader Arjun Chowrasia(27) in the Cossipore area here Friday. "The CBI should be given the task of investigating Arjun's death," Shah told reporters. He condemned the unnatural death of a BJP worker.

Saying that Trinamool is trying to create an atmosphere of fear, Shah said, "Nowhere in the country has the court-ordered so many CBI investigations in such a short time. This shows that the common man and the court do not have confidence in the police.

This is a shameful day after the third anniversary of the formation of the Trinamool government. The politics of the TMC is to find and kill the workers of the opposition. BJP leader Arjun Chaurasia has been assassinated for political purposes. Wherever the whole of Bengal goes, killings are taking place for political revenge. Opposition leaders are being selectively killed. The BJP is strongly condemning this political assassination," he added.

Chowrasia was found dead, hanging inside a residence in the Ghosh Bagan area in the city's northern locality of Kashipur. Having met with the family members of Chowrasia, Shah said that the Home Ministry had asked for a report from the West Bengal government. "Union Home Ministry has taken cognizance of the incident and has sought a report from the West Bengal govt," he said.

The Home Minister visited the family members of Chowrasia as well. Noting that the day marked a year since TMC came back into power in the state with a thumping majority, The Home Minister accused the ruling party of having kickstarted the trend of political murders in the state again.

Later in the day, protestors gathered at the spot where Chowrasia was found dead and objected to the body being taken for postmortem, TMC MLA from Kashipur Atin Ghosh said this was being done with the intention of 'dirty politics' by the Opposition. "When an unnatural death occurs, police take the body for investigation & postmortem. It's a natural course of action. They have obstructed it to indulge in dirty politics. They've come from outside. So, we are strongly condemning it," he said.

While the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha's (BJYM) state unit alleged that the deceased was slaughtered and then hanged, the Trinamool Congress ruled out all allegations. "The allegations against us are baseless. Let the police investigate the matter," said Shantanu Sen, TMC MP.
