BJP MP Jayant Sinha slams Mamata over violence

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jayant Sinha hit out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the post-poll violence in the state and said that violence and vicious political attacks in Bengal have not only embarrassed the entire country but also dispirited the essence of democratic dignity.

New Delhi: Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Jharkhand's Hazaribagh, Jayant Sinha has slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the post-poll violence in the state in which a dozen people were killed.

In a video message, Sinha said that violence and vicious political attacks in Bengal have not only embarrassed the entire country but also dispirited the essence of democratic dignity.

"I appeal to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take necessary steps to stop this orgy of violence which continues unabated. She needs to stop the violence and peacefully fight the battle against COVID-19," he added.

According to the BJP, nine workers lost their lives in the state in widespread violence unleashed by Trinamool Congress supporters after the declaration of Assembly election result on May 2.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, expressing anguish over the rise in political violence in the state while BJP chief JP Nadda visited the state to meet families of party workers killed in the violence.
