New Delhi: Bihar BJP president and West Champaran MP Sanjay Jaiswal slammed Opposition parties for "playing politics" over Pegasus snooping row and dismissed any link between the Narendra Modi-led government and the Pegasus spyware.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, he termed it as an international conspiracy to defame India's democracy and alleged that Opposition parties have become party to it. "The parent organization of this spyware, NSO, has already said that most of their clients are from the Western World, still Opposition parties-led by Congress are trying to malign the image of the country. Be it the case of China, the incident of Pulwama or the tool kit related to the farmers' movement, the Opposition parties have always supported the foreign forces," Jaiswal alleged.
He further said that instead of discussing the issue of farmers, Covid-19 in the Parliament, Congress is raising issues that have no strength. And it is unfortunate that Congress has decided to hold a nationwide protest over this matter on July 22. The Opposition parties are trying to mislead the public in every possible way, he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Pegasus spyware snooping row erupted on Sunday, a day ahead of Parliament's Monsoon Session, after it emerged that around 50,000 phone numbers, including around 300 belonging to Indians, were part of a database leak and linked to Israeli company NSO Group. These phone numbers were either put under surveillance or were potential targets of snooping.
