BJP gifts Remdesivir while poor supply leaves Surat hospitals high and dry

Amid a shortage of Remdesivir in the city since the last few days, a half-a-kilometre-long queue was seen outside the BJP's Surat city office on Saturday as the party distributed the medicine vials for free.

Surat (Gujarat): Amid a shortage of Remdesivir in the city since the last few days, a half-a-kilometre-long queue was seen outside the BJP's Surat city office on Saturday as the party distributed the medicine vials for free.

Remdesivir is a key medicine in the treatment of Coronavirus.

It is reported that relatives of COVID-19 patients were queuing up at the Civil Hospital for Remdesivir, however, the city had run out of supplies. BJP's state president C R Patil announced outside the hospital that the party workers would distribute the vials to the needy free of cost outside the party office. Earlier, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had announced that the state received three lakh vials of Remdesivir.

Following this announcement, a serpentine queue was seen outside the BJP office at Udhna.

BJP MP from Surat Darshna Jardosh told ETV Bharat that the arrangement was made for those who were under treatment and home isolation, provided they furnished the doctor's prescription and Aadhaar Card. Nearly 1,000 vials of the medicine were distributed on Saturday. Jardosh said tokens were handed to others, who could avail of the medicine tomorrow.

BJP's Surat city president Niranjan Janjhmera told ETV Bharat that C R Patil had placed an order for 5,000 vials.
