The JDU leader added that the Bihar government is keenly waiting for the decision of the central government since the BJP has supported the proposal in both the Houses in Bihar in the past. He says that Chief Minister is determined to initiate the process because 'caste-based' figures will enable the government to implement various schemes with more vision and clarity. He further added that 75 years of India's Independence is being celebrated this year but unfortunately the population of the downtrodden, backward, oppressed class is still unknown. Due to this lacunae, several backward and oppressed people are not getting the benefits of government schemes, so the caste-based census is more of a necessity than choice.

He added that if the caste census is done, it will help the government to design developmental programs based on the actual number of people belonging to weaker sections other than the Scheduled castes and tribes, hence JDU is vehement on this demand. After passing the resolution twice unanimously in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, the proposal has been sent to the central government but it is still pending.
