Youth Congress provides food and shelter to migrants in Delhi amid corona-crisis

Youth Congress President Srinivas BV on Thursday said that Youth Congress has been doing everything in its capacity to help migrants, it has provided food and shelter to the stranded labourers.

New Delhi: In a move to support migrant workers at a time of an unprecedented corona crisis, Indian Youth Congress provided accommodation to a number of people for 15 days hence convincing them to stay back in the national capital, a source said.

On Wednesday, Youth Congress President Srinivas BV received an information that several migrant workers are going back to their home state Bihar because of non-availability of food and shelter. "After the assurance of getting food and accommodation, the migrants agreed to stay back in the national capital and wait for Shramik Special Train," Srinivas BV added.

He also said, "The Government at national level as well as many state governments, have failed to make proper arrangements for migrant workers. Despite mega corona budgets showcased by the central government, no relief seems to be in sight for these poor migrant workers".

Srinivas BV further added, "IYC will continue its work without any expectations. However, the government must also understand the gravity of situation and make appropriate arrangements."

Reportedly, a food bank is also being operated at IYC headquarters which is feeding approximately 2500 people every day. Further, a nationwide helpline number has been put out, aiming to help the stranded and impoverished people in all possible manner.
