New Delhi: Hundreds of Indian Youth Congress members, on Tuesday, led a march towards Parliament, protesting against the farm bills. Many of them, including the President of IYC, got detained by Delhi Police for violating the norms.
Leading the protest, IYC President Shrinivas BV said, "Central Government is anti-youth and anti-farmers. Modi ji is suppressing the voice of countrymen to benefit a few industrialists. I want to say that the anti-farmer black law has been passed at the whims of Prime Minister and if these bills are not withdrawn, there will be fierce protests and Satyagrah on streets."
The Youth wing of Congress also burnt effigies of PM Modi, alleging that the Government is "adamant" on "destroying" the Indian democracy.
"Central Government has been a complete failure in respect of youth and farmers. When people raise demands for their rights, this arrogant BJP Government does not tolerate democratic opposition and beats protesting youth and farmers," Srinivas said.
Krishna Allavaru, In-Charge of IYC, said, "In a democratic country, the way in which BJP Government is ignoring the voices of people, it becomes quite evident that they are anti-farmer and anti-youth."
The protest march was started from IYC headquarters on Raisina Road, but it was stopped near Shastri Bhawan. The detained members of Youth Congress were taken to Mandir Marg Police Station.
On Sunday, Rajya Sabha passed Farmers' and Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 despite a strong protest by the opposition leaders.
