Will India ever become a 'rape-free' nation?

When Nirbhaya's rapists were hanged in 2020, almost 8 years after the crime, it appeared that a strong message has been sent across, but, recent Uttar Pradesh's Hathras incident has broken the illusions and again put us in dilemma- Would India ever become 'rape-free'.

Hyderabad: Irrespective of any government, India has witnessed a spike in rape cases every year. Instead of tackling such cases, the country has seen an accretion in brutality with every rape case reported in India. The only difference lies in getting 'media attention'.

In 2012 Delhi gang rape and murder case involved a rape and fatal assault that occurred on 16 December 2012 in South Delhi. The incident took place when a 23-year-old female physiotherapy intern, was beaten, gang-raped, and tortured in a private bus in which she was travelling with her male friend.

Would India ever became 'rape-free'

The brutal incident garnered widespread national and international coverage and was widely condemned, both in India and abroad. Subsequently, public protests against the state and central governments for failing to provide adequate security for women.
