As many as 639 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Tamil Nadu, taking the total count in the State to 11,224.

"A total of 639 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths have been reported in Tamil Nadu today. With this, the total number of positive cases in the state has spiked to 11,224," read an official statement issued by the Health Department.

There are 6,971 active cases and 78 deaths as per the latest update.

Transforming Rural India Foundation (TRI) of TATA TRUSTS on May 16 joined hands with the Jharkhand government on fight against COVID-19.

It gave 8,400 PPE kits and other health protection equipments to the Government.

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren thanked the TRI for its assistance during the time of pandemic.

TRI officially joined hands to provide PPE Kits (8400), Gloves (87438 pairs), Triple-Layer Masks (72338), Kits for SHG leaders and PRI members (5000) and Dry Ration Kits for PVTG (10000) on ground.

Over 13,000 people have returned under Mission Vande Bharat so far: Hardeep Singh Puri

Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, on Saturday, said that over 13,000 people have returned to India under the first phase of the Vande Bharat mission.

"More than 13,000 people have already returned on various flights under Mission Vande Bharat so far. Today, 812 citizens have returned on Air India and AirIndia Express flights from Newark, London, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. More flights continue," Puri wrote on Twitter.

Vande Bharat Mission, which started on May 7 to bring back stranded Indian nationals back home from other countries, initiated its second phase of the operation from Saturday (May 16) by sending three Air India flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Death toll due to COVID-19 in Indore touch 100

Ninety-two people tested positive for COVID-19 in Indore on Saturday, while the total number of deaths due to coronavirus in the district reached 100.

According to Praveen Jadia, Indore Chief Medical Health Officer (CMHO), 92 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Indore district on Saturday; taking the total number of positive cases to 2470.

The death toll increased to 100 after one death was reported on Saturday, the CMHO stated.

WHO says 8 COVID-19 vaccine candidates in clinical trial

A total of eight vaccine candidates for COVID-19 are in the clinical trial while another 110 are in various stages of development across the globe, according to World Health Organisation (WHO) data.

As governments around the world scramble to curb the contagion, pharmaceutical companies and health institutes in countries like United States, China, and Germany are leading the development to combat the virus, South China Morning Post reported.

As things stand, several countries like the US, and China have even announced tentative dates by when they plan to get a vaccine ready.

New Delhi: With the highest-ever spike of close to 5,000 cases in the past 24 hours, the COVID-19 count in India has crossed 90,000 on Sunday.

With an increase of 4,987 COVID-19 cases being reported in the last 24 hours, the count has reached 90,927, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total number of active cases in the country stands at 53,946 today, while 2,872 deaths have been recorded due to the infection so far, with one patient having migrated. 120 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

However, on the positive side, close to 4,000 patients have also been cured and discharged in the past 24 hours, taking the tally of cured patients to 34,108.

With 30,706 confirmed cases, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected by the infection in the country.

It is followed by Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, with 10,988 and 10,585 cases, respectively.

The national capital, with 9,333 cases, is also one of the regions which is badly affected by the infection.
