Pilibhit(Uttar Pradesh): while addressing a gathering of Muslim voters on Saturday Varun Gandhi, BJP leader and Lok Sabha candidate from Pilibhit, said that he would work for all irrespective of their political affiliation and religion.
His statement comes days after current BJP MP from Pilibhit, Maneka Gandhi stirred controversy for issuing a threat to Muslims, suggesting she would not provide them employment if they do not cast vote in favour of BJP.
Speaking at a gathering organised in Pilibhit, Varun Gandhi said that voters can approach him to solve their issues irrespective of the religion they belong to.
"Vote for the candidate based on your interests, but approach me for the issues you are facing. I am willing to help," he said.
"Those who discriminate people based on community and religion are betraying the country," he added.
Earlier, Maneka Gandhi was given a show-cause notice by Sultanpur's District Magistrate for her communal remark.
In a straight swap, Maneka Gandhi is contesting from Sultanpur, a seat won by her son Varun Gandhi in 2014.
