New Delhi: Sharing a video in support of the ongoing farmers' protest in India, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded the immediate rollback of the farm bills by the Central government.

Tweeting the video, Rahul said, "Farmers are having legitimate demands. Modi ji, listen to the voice of India (Jayaz maangen hain kisano ki, desh ki awaz suno Modi ji)."

Addressing the farmers he added, "There is a continuous attack upon you. Firstly demonetization, then GST, and now no financial help is being given to you during COVID times. It is an attempt to kill you by making you a slave of corporates."

"These three bills are an attempt by the Government to privatise agriculture. We are standing in solidarity with you and we'll stop these bills to get enacted as laws. Together we'll fight against it," he said.

The video is a part of Congress' online campaign, #SpeakUpForFarmers, launched on Saturday to protest against the recently passed Farm Bills in the Parliament.

Rahul also slammed the Central Government, saying, "You've committed a huge mistake. If farmers have come to the street then it will be a huge loss. Immediately roll-back these bills and provide a guarantee to the farmers about MSP."

Various farmers' organisations have hit the streets to oppose the Central Government's three bills including Farmers' and Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020, which got passed in Parliament recently.

Congress' Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Choudhary also targeted the Government over these bills, by tweeting to the PM, "Narendra Modi ji, can you not notice the rage of the farmers across the nation over the farm bills. These are the proverbial last straw on the back of farmers and the BJP should not try to defend the indefensible."

In his video, Congress General Secretary in-charge, KC Venugopal said, "The hurry in passing these bills is only to favour BJP's crony capitalists friends. Congress party is taking this education throughout the country to support our farmers."

Congress leader Rajeev Gowda also in a video said, "The three farm bills that have been passed are anti-farmer, they must be withdrawn. They weaken the position of farmers and they make farmers more vulnerable to corporate and other exploitation."

Former Union Minister P Chidambaram explained, "The APMC Act today is a safety net for a large section of farmers. The MSP is a price signal and the market takes this signal from MSP. These two bills will eliminate MSP as a price signal and in the course of time, APMCs will wither and vanish."
