Wild bears reclaim Tirumala streets amid lockdown

In videos shot by local residents, wild bears could be seen walking freely on the streets of Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh, as the country remains under a lockdown imposed to contain the spread of coronavirus disease.

Chittoor (Andhra Pradesh): With pilgrimage to the famous Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh coming to a halt following a lockdown imposed to contain the spread of coronavirus disease, wild bears could be seen reclaiming the city streets in videos shot by locals.

In two separate videos, bears can be seen moving freely on the nearly deserted streets of Tirumala at night.

As the country’s 1.3 billion population has been forced to remain indoors, with some exceptions, several instances of stray animals, as well as wildlife venturing into urban spaces, have been reported from across the country.
