YSR Congress leader and former MLA Dronamraju Srinivas succumbed to COVID-19 today.

He was 59 and survived by his wife, son and daughter.

Srinivas got infected with coronavirus a month ago and was shifted to a corporate hospital for treatment after the initial home isolation period, YSRC sources said.

Kerala reported 8,553 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the infection count to 2,28,886 while the toll climbed to 836 with 23 more deaths.

Samples of as many as 4,851 people have turned negative, the highest single-day recoveries while the active cases touched 84,497.

2,683 new cases take Delhi's tally past 2.9 lakh; death toll reaches 5,510

The national capital's COVID-19 caseload rose to 2.9 lakh today with authorities reporting 2,683 new instances of the infection in a day, while 38 new fatalities during the same period took the death toll in the city to 5,510.

This was the third day in a row that the city reported less than 3,000 new cases. Authorities reported 2,258 new cases on Saturday and 2,920 on Friday.

Delhi reported 38 deaths on Sunday. The fatality count was 34 on Saturday, the lowest since September 25 when 24 deaths were recorded.

J-K records 878 fresh COVID-19 cases, 11 deaths

Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday recorded 878 fresh COVID-19 cases, while 11 fatalities took place in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 79,106 and the death toll to 1,242, officials said.

Jammu district reported the highest number of 252 new COVID-19 cases, followed by 156 cases in Srinagar district, they said.

Jharkhand reports 877 new cases, 5 fresh fatalities

Jharkhand's COVID-19 caseload rose to 86,277 on Sunday as 877 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.

Five more patients succumbed to the infection, taking the state's coronavirus death toll to 734, he said.

The state now has 10,939 active coronavirus cases, while 74,604 people have been cured of the disease so far, the official said.

Actor Arjun Bijlani today said that his wife Neha Swami has tested positive for COVID-19 and his family is currently home quarantined.

Bijlani and Swami, 34, got married in 2013 and have a five-year-old son.

The "Left Right Left" star requested those who came in contact with the couple to get themselves tested.

Delhi schools to remain shut till October 31

Suspension of schools in Delhi has been extended to October 31 due to COVID-19, said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

"All schools will remain closed for students in Delhi till October 31, 2020," Sisodia said.

Earlier, all schools in Delhi were ordered to stay closed till 5 October.

539 fresh COVID-19 cases push tally to 29,089 in Puducherry

The COVID-19 tally in the union territory of Puducherry rose to 29,089 with the addition of 343 fresh cases while the death toll mounted to 539 with five more fatalities, the government said on Sunday.

As many as 419 patients were discharged from hospitals during the last 24 hours ending 10 AM on Sunday, taking the cumulative recoveries to 23,763.

There were 4,787 active cases in the union territory, Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao said.

A total of 3,725 samples were tested during the period and so far 2,02,784 specimens had been examined by the health department, he told a virtual press meet.

Odisha reports 3,326 new COVID-19 cases, 15 more deaths

Odisha on Sunday reported 3,326 new cases of COVID-19, taking the state's tally to 2,32,713, a Health Department official said.

The state's toll rose to 907 with 15 more patients losing their lives, he said.

Three patients each died in Khurda and Cuttack districts and two patients lost their lives in the Kendrapara district.

Arunachal Pradesh's COVID-19 tally rises to 10,421

At least 201 more people, including eight security personnel and 17 health care workers, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the northeastern state's caseload to 10,421, a senior health official said on Sunday.

Of the 201 fresh cases, 80 were reported from the Capital Complex region, Changlang (16), 14 cases each from West Siang and Tirap, Kamle (11), East Siang (10), Lohit (9) and 8 each from Lower Subansiri and Namsai districts respectively, the official said.

Telangana COVID-19 tally inches closer to two lakh mark

Telangana reported 1,949 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to nearly two lakh, while ten more deaths pushed the toll to 1,163, a government
the bulletin said on Sunday.

The active cases stood at 27,901 and the cumulative recovered cases rose to 1,70,212, it said, providing data as of 8 PM on October 3.

The fresh infections took the total count to 1,99,276 and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for a maximum of 291 of the 1,949 cases, followed by Rangareddy (156) and Medchal Malkajgiri (150) districts.

The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 3,868 on Sunday as 10 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official
said.

Eight new patients were detected during contact tracing, while two have travel history, he said.

Eleven more people were cured of the disease, the official said.

Forty-eight people tested positive for COVID-19 in Ladakh, taking the virus caseload in the Union Territory to 4,477, officials said on Sunday.

India scales up testing capacity from 1 in January to over 7.7 cr in October: MoHFW

The testing capacity in the country has been ramped up at a significant pace to reach over 7.7 crores in October from just one in January this year, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Sunday.

The MoHFW also said that the increased pace of testing has led to "early identification, prompt isolation, and effective treatment of COVID-19 cases. These have eventually resulted in a sustained low Fatality Rate."

"India has scaled up its testing capacity from one in January to more than 7.7 cr in October. With progressively falling positivity rate, testing has worked as an effective tool to limit the spread of COVID-19 infection," a tweet by the MoHFW read.

As per the MoHFW, 7,78,50,403 tests for COVID-19 were conducted in the country on October 3 which marks a new high.

Madhya Pradesh reports 1,811 new cases, 27 deaths

As many as 1,811 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, according to the State Health Department.

The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 1,33,918 including 19,807 active cases, 1,11,712 recoveries.

With 27 new deaths, the cumulative toll of the state reached 2,101.

India reported 79,476 new cases on Saturday taking the count of people infected with coronavirus to 64,73,545.

Assam reports 1,632 new COVID-19 cases

As many as 1,632 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Assam on Saturday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

A total of 33,656 tests were conducted in the state yesterday. The total number of cases now stands at 1,85,444 including 1,48,960 discharges, 35,746 active cases and 735 deaths.

30 Army personnel donate plasma at camp in Indore

Thirty Army personnel on Saturday donated plasma at a camp set up in a military hospital in Indore's Mhow.

Among those who donated the plasma include Army personnel from the ranks of jawan to Brigadier at the camp which was set up with the help of Maharaja Yashwantrao Holkar Hospital and MGM College, Indore.

"We have a number of people who have recovered after being infected with the disease. They all volunteered to donate plasma. The army belongs to the people and we are ready to sacrifice our lives for them. If we can sacrifice our lives for people, there is no big deal in donating plasma," Lieutenant General Anant Narayanan, Commandant, Infantry School in Mhow told reporters here.

Dr Ashok Yadav, Head Professor, MGM College, and Maharaja Yashwantrao Holkar Hospital said that the plasma collected will help nearly 60 COVID-19 patients to combat the disease.

"This is a unique camp. Those people who were infected with COVID-19 and are now recovered are donating plasma. 30 Army personnel donated plasma. This will help nearly 60 COVID-19 infected patients to combat the disease. We are facing problems in collecting plasma. We thank are thankful to Army men," he said.

According to the Chief Medical and Health Officer Praveen Jadia, 477 new COVID-19 cases reported in Indore on Saturday, taking the district tally to 25,928.

592 people have succumbed to the infection in the district while 20,870 have recovered.
