The government has cancelled passport of controversial self-styled godman Nithyananda and rejected his application for a fresh one, said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson on Friday.

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said that the government has cancelled self-styled godman Nithyananda's passport and also rejected his application for a fresh one while sensitising all its missions and posts abroad about the fugitive.

"We have cancelled his passport, his fresh passport request was put on hold as he couldn't get clearance from police," said MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar during a press conference.

Asked about reports that Nithyananda has founded his own country, Kumar said, "Setting up a website is different from setting up a nation."

Kumar added, "We have sensitised all our missions and posts. It is difficult to speculate on the location of fugitives and it is not for the MEA to find him. We have told foreign governments to inform us if they have any info. We are still waiting as of now."

Nithyananda is accused of abducting children and using them to raise money for his ashram.

In June 2018, a court in Karnataka had framed charges against him in a rape case.

Intro:New Delhi: With controversy surrounding absconding rape accused godman Nithyanand continues to escalate after reports of him purchasing an island and declaring it as a nation, the Ministry of External Affairs has now issued a clarity saying that it has instructed all its missions abroad to sensitize foreign governments against him.


Body:Responding to a media query, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, "We have asked all our missions abroad to sensitize foreign governments about cases against him. We have urged them that as soon as they receive any information about him they inform us."

MEA spokesperson refused to comment on the purchase of an island and declaration of new country by Nithyananda. Raveesh Kumar said that setting up of a new country doesn't happen through a website.

The MEA spokesperson also informed that Nithyananda's passport was issued in 2008 which had validity of 10 years but it was cancelled way before that.





Conclusion:Meanwhile, location of Kailasa continues to remain a mystery as Ecuadorian embassy in India has denied that rape accused Nithyananda is setting up an independent nation on its island. Initially, a lot of reports emerged that Nithyananda bought a Ecuadorian island and established it as an independent nation.
