'We demand separate cadre of officers for Arunachal Pradesh,' says BJP MP

Arunachal Pradesh MP Tapir Gao has demanded a separate cadre of officers for the state. Talking to ETV Bharat the MP said that Arunachal Pradesh is a strategically important state in the easternmost part of India, we need a separate cadre so that an overall development could be ensured.

New Delhi: Arunachal Pradesh MP Tapir Gao has reiterated his demand for a new cadre of bureaucrats separate from the existing Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre-based service.

In a recent conference of Governors and Lt. Governors held in the national capital, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brigadier BD Mishra (retired) raised the issue while bringing the attention of President Ram Nath Kovind.

"Arunachal Pradesh is a strategically important state in the easternmost part of India. We need a separate cadre so that an overall development could be ensured," said Tapir Gao, an MP from Arunachal Pradesh while talking to ETV Bharat on the issue.

At present, officials from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) posted in Arunachal Pradesh are deputed for a period of two years.

"If we have very good officers, they leave the state even before they complete their term," said the lawmaker.

He said that it is necessary to have dedicated cadre of bureaucrats for the state because of its diversity.

"It's more than 32 years that Arunachal Pradesh attained statehood. But still, we are under Union Territory cadre," Gao said.

The AGMUT cadre mainly looks after Union Territories and a few states including Arunachal Pradesh, Gao and Mizoram.

Union Home Ministry is the cadre controlling authority has sanctioned strength of 42 IAS officer and 35 IPS officer for Arunachal Pradesh.

However, Government records said that against a total authorised strength of 403, at present, there are only 271 IAS officer under AGMUT cadre.
