Warangal (Telangana): A day after Telangana Police cracked the mystery behind nine dead bodies recovered from a well at Goreekunta village, the prime accused Sanjay Kumar Yadav has revealed his motive behind mass murder.

Yadav has confessed to killing the nine people, including eight migrants, to cover up his crime of killing Maqsood's (one of the deceased) relative.

Giving details about the incident, Warangal Commissioner of Police V Ravinder explained, "Maqsood's sister-in-law Rafiqa came to Warangal from West Bengal five years back along with her children, including one daughter and two sons. Rafiqa used to provide food to Sanjay regularly and they worked in the same gunny bag manufacturing unit and eventually, they became close. Sanjay had promised Rafiqa to marry her but Rafiqa came to know about her daughter's close relation with Sanjay following which she started threatening Sanjay that she would file a complaint against him. "He convinced the family members that he was going to Kolkata to talk to Rafiqa's family to talk about their marriage. After they boarded the train, Sanjay gave buttermilk, mixed with sleeping tablets. When she fell unconscious, he threw her out from a moving train at Nidadavolu, Andhra Pradesh", CP added.

"I killed Maqsood's family and as they were asking about Rafiqa. I took her to Kolkata on March 8 and killed her by pushing her out from a moving train at Nidadavolu in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh," said Sanjay.

He added, "I was scared that Maqsood's wife Nisha will inform police about the murder. So, I decided to kill her."

The police officer said, "After coming back to Warangal, he told everyone that Rafiqa is with her family in Bengal. But Maqsood's wife Nisha Alam came to know that Rafiqa was missing. She started intimidating Sanjay and he got scared. He made a plan to kill the entire family when Maqsood planned to organise a birthday party of his grandson on May 20. Sanjay purchased sixty sleeping tablets from a medical shop and mixed them in the food and cold drink. After they fell unconscious, he threw the bodies in the borewell and hid their phones,"

Reportedly, a total of nine bodies were recovered from a well in Gorrekunta village. They were identified as Alam (55), a native of West Bengal working in gunny bag manufacturing unit in Warangal for last 20 years, his wife Nisha (48), daughter Bushra Khatoon (22), sons Shabaaz Alam (20), Sohail Alam (18) and others.

The bodies of Sriram Kumar Shah (26) and Shyam Kumar Shah (21), both natives of Bihar, and Mohammed Shakeel (40) of Tripura were also recovered from the well. They were all workers in the same gunny bag manufacturing unit.

However, during interrogation, Sanjay Kumar Yadav confessed to his crime stating that he had given a soft drink mixed with sleeping pills to all nine persons. Earlier, the Warangal police formed multiple teams to nab the accused.
