New Delhi: A forty-five seconds advertisement video released by leading jewellery brand of the country went viral but was trolled on social media on Monday. The video showcasing a Hindu bride happily living in a Muslim family was loved by many who shared it through various social media platforms but more netizens chose to hate the video which leads the #BycottTanishq started trending on Twitter. Meanwhile, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders also expressed their disapproval on social media and requested the jewellery brand to take the video back.

VHP spokesperson Vijay Shankar Tiwari speaking over the Tanishq adv controversy

Irked with the controversy, Tanishq removed the video from social media platforms but not before it became a political issue and a matter of arguments over the microblogging site.

ETV Bharat spoked to VHP spokesperson Vijay Shankar Tiwari who has welcomed Tanishq's decision of taking the video back.

"We objected on the video and demanded it to be taken back and requested that such kind of content-based on imagination should not be produced in future. Tanishq is a venture of Tata Enterprises which is considered as a patriotic organisation, we do not doubt on this but they should stay away from such controversy", said the VHP leader.

Talking about the point of objection in the video, the VHP leader claimed that it was far from reality.

"If they want to showcase communal harmony and love, why don't they show a Muslim bride in a Hindu family living happily. There are Muslim girls married in Hindu families but not one bride ever came out to say that she was being harassed in the Hindu family. On the other hand, if you see reports of just last one year, hundreds of cases have come out that a Hindu girl has been cheated, harassed, exploited ane even killed by Muslim men. So why to glorify them on the basis of imagination and why not show the opposite of it", said the VHP spokesperson.

  • So Hindutva bigots have called for a boycott of ⁦@TanishqJewelry⁩ for highlighting Hindu-Muslim unity through this beautiful ad. If Hindu-Muslim “ekatvam” irks them so much, why don’t they boycott the longest surviving symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity in the world -- India? pic.twitter.com/cV0LpWzjda

But many hailed the video and expressed disappointment over Tanishq taking it back. Senior Congress leaders also jumped in and slammed the trolls and those who find it inappropriate. Shashi Tharoor shared the video ad and tweeted that the ad highlighted Hindu-Muslim unity.

Reacting on Congress leaders supporting the ad video, VHP leader said that it was during Congress regime that Hindus were always insulted.

"You can not expect respect for Hindus from Congress. They have no credibility in society today. They stand with China and Pakistan, so what can be expected from them? Tanishq ad was trolled on social media and not by VHP, which means Crores of Hindus are against such content and they expressed their views about it. Congress has failed to understand the feelings of people till now" said Vijay Shankar Tiwari.
