Varanasi: Pakistan-born sisters get Indian citizenship after 12 years

Two Pakistan-born girls, Neela and Mahero were finally granted Indian citizenship after 12 long years of wranglings in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi. Their father thanked Prime Minister's Office for the support.

Varanasi (UP): Two Pakistan-born sisters, Neela and Mahero were finally granted their Indian citizenship after 12 long years of their battle in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi.

Just in time for the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Girls' father Nasim, thanked PM Narendra Modi for the receipt of Indian citizenship to his daughters.

Nasim's family:

  • Nasim, a resident of Pandariba spoke was married in 1989 to Shahin, a Karachi resident
  • Nasim's and his wife began to stay in Varanasi from the year 1995 after their daughters were born in Pakistan.
  • Nasim's wife, a Karachi resident was granted Indian Citizenship in 2007 without any hassle
  • In the year 2017, Nasim applied for Indian citizenship for his daughters but it was denied repeatedly for one reason or the other
  • They finally approached the PMO and submitted their appeal there. However, this time the duo was given Indian citizenship after 12 years.

Further, the two girls have also been listed in the voter's list for the upcoming final phase of elections.

Nasim went ahead to thank the authorities and PM's office for their relentless work.

Nasim further added they were grateful to the PM because of whom their daughters were able to get their Indian citizenship at the earliest.
