UP: AIMIM leader held for spreading misinformation on COVID-19

Uttar Pradesh police arrested AIMIM District President Mansoor Alam for spreading fake news about coronavirus on social media. The accused was taken into custody for spreading misinformation about death tolls in the country.

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh): AIMIM District President Mansoor Alam has been arrested by the police for spreading misinformation on social media about deaths caused due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The accused,who is a resident of Gajia in Jahagirabad area of Naini in Uttar Pradesh had shared fake news related Covid-19 to triger panic among the masses.

According to the police, Masood on social media accused the government of hiding facts related to total number of deaths in the country. His post claimed that more than 50,000 people have died but the government data claims only 500.

On being interogated, Alam said that he shared the post to make people aware about the coronavirus so that they do not step out of their houses.

The police took action against Masood after the post shared by him went viral on social media. An FIR was registered against the accused and action is being taken accordingly.

According to the Health Ministry, a total of 724 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in the country, out of which 67 have been cured and 17 have died. (IANS REPORT)
