New Delhi: Reacting to the removal of Congress leaders from the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society, senior party leader Karan Singh on Wednesday said that the Centre's move was "unfortunate".
Speaking to ETV Bharat over the development, Singh said, "Those people who find it difficult to even use Pt Jawaharlal Nehru's name, have got honoured now, which is very curious."
The government has reconstituted the NMML society removing Congressmen Mallikarjun Kharge, Jairam Ramesh and Karan Singh as its members and inducting television journalist Rajat Sharma and adman Prasoon Joshi among others.
"They are entirely entitled to reconstitute the society but the fact that they have gone out of their way to remove all of us who have been involved in this from many many decades and who are admirers of Jawaharlal Nehru does show the mindset that is very unfortunate," Singh said.
"It is very peculiar. I was one of the founder members of that museum. We set out the concept of this institution, we were there from the beginning. I've been involved in this from 40-45 years. If they don't need my experience, that is their decision," he added.

As per the orders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be President of the committee and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will the Vice President.
Union ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ramesh Pokhriyal, Prakash Javadekar, V Muraleedharan and Prahlad Singh Patel, ICCR chairman Vinay Sahsrabudhhe, Prasar Bharti chairman A Surya Prakash, secretaries of Expenditure, Culture and Housing and Urban Affairs, are its members.
These appointments assume significance as the government is planning a major revamp of the museum.
"Pt Jawaharlal Nehru's legacy can never be erased but the attempt does seem to be like that, which is very unfortunate," Singh said.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate also commented on the development, saying that the BJP government is leaving no stone unturned to change the history and heritage of the country.
Amidst reports that the Centre is planning to overhaul the museum to dedicate it to all the Prime Ministers, Singh said, "We've welcomed the Centre's decision to build new museums for the other Prime Ministers as well. But let us not tamper this institution."
