Tuticorin custodial death: CCTV footage shows no resistance by father-son duo

Footage sourced from a CCTV camera installed at a shop close to that of P Jayaraj (62) and his son J Bennix (32) - the father-son duo who died in police custody - shows that there was no resistance from them towards policemen in contrast to the claims made by the Tamil Nadu Police in its FIR in the case.

Thoothukudi (Tamil Nadu): In contrast to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the Tamil Nadu Police in the case pertaining to the custodial deaths of a man and his son in Thoothukudi district, footage sourced from a CCTV camera installed at a nearby shop shows that there was no resistance from the duo towards policemen.

The footage also shows that the scene outside the family’s mobile shop on the fateful night was not chaotic at all, as claimed by the police.

In its FIR, the police had stated that there was a lot of activity outside the mobile shop owned by P Jayaraj (62) and his son J Bennix (32) on June 19 before they were arrested for keeping their store open beyond permitted hours during the lockdown.

The father-son duo died three days later within a gap of few hours.

Thousands of people on Monday took to the streets in Sathakulam, a place in the Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu, to pay their respects to the father-son duo.
