New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party's Tripura in-charge Vinod Sonkar on Tuesday said that Chief Minister Biplab Deb should continue serving the people of the state and leave it to the party to resolve any differences within the party. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Deb said that he will seek people's feedback on his leadership and inform the party high command if he received a negative response on it.

While speaking to media on Tuesday, Biplab Deb got emotional and announced that he will go to Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala on December 13 and ask the people of Tripura to gather there and tell him whether he should stay as the Chief Minister or not.

"If people don't support me, I will inform the party high command," he added. During the newly-elected observer of the state Sonkar's recent visit to Tripura, a group of party workers had reportedly raised 'Biplab Hatao, BJP Bachao' slogans in protest against the chief minister, seeking his removal.

Sonkar said that both he and chief minister Deb had spoken to BJP national party president JP Nadda regarding Deb's announcement.

"Both Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and I spoke with the National President about this. The Chief Minister should serve the people of Tripura and if there are any issues, the party will look into it," Sonkar told a news agency. On October 13, disgruntled BJP MLAs from Tripura had met Nadda to highlight their grievances against Deb.

BJP had stormed to power in the State for after dethroning the communist government of Manik Sarkar in the 2018 assembly polls.

In the ruling coalition of the 60-member Tripura, Assembly BJP has 36 MLAs and eight of the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT).
