New Delhi: The Union Cabinet is likely to take a call on a fresh bill to ban the practice of instant Triple Talaq and the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in its meeting on Wednesday.
With the dissolution of the 16th Lok Sabha last month, the contentious bills had lapsed as it could not be passed by Parliament.
Since the Narendra Modi government returned to power in the recently held elections, it has decided to give a fresh push to these proposed laws in the newly-constituted Lok Sabha. As per reports, these two bills are on the top priority of the Narendra Modi 2.0 Government.
For reintroduction of these two bills, the Cabinet needs to give its approval first.
The Government is also likely to make some other announcement in Wednesday's cabinet meeting including schemes for agriculture and employment generation.
After the Union Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold the first meeting of new Council of Ministers in the national capital.
As per reports, the Prime Minister is expected to underline the role of ministers of state in the running of ministries and may ask Cabinet ministers to give their deputies adequate responsibilities.
