Meanwhile, the Fifteenth Finance Commission (XVFC), led by Chairman NK Singh, submitted its report for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26 to the President of India. 1. PM Modi, President Jinping to 'sit together' 5 times in next 20 days

After the successive failures of a series of talks at various levels to improve the situation across the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh, now all hopes for a resolution between India and China rest on the top leaders—Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping as they participate under different 'umbrella' platforms for as many as five times in the next 20 days, writes senior journalist Sanjib Kr Baruah.

2. 15th Finance Commission submits report for 2021-26 to President

The Fifteenth Finance Commission (XVFC), led by Chairman NK Singh, submitted its report for the period 2021-22 to 2025-26 to the President of India, a government statement said here on Monday. Members of the Commission, Ajay Narayan Jha, Prof Anoop Singh, Dr Ashok Lahiri and Dr Ramesh Chand along with Secretary to the Commission, Arvind Mehta accompanied the Chairman to submit the report, titled "Finance Commission in Covid Times", to the President.

3. Ram Mandir Trust Chief hospitalised after health worsens

The president of Ram Janambhoomi Trust Mahant Nritya Gopal Das was admitted to Medanta hospital in Uttar Pradesh after he complained of chest pain and breathlessness. Das had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 7, two days after the ground-breaking ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. He had shared the dias with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries during the Ram Mandir Bhoomi Pujan.

Three Indian Army soldiers and a Border Security Force (BSF) troopers were killed near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday. The Army was trying to foil an infiltration bid in the Machil sector on Saturday night. The four were killed while neutralising three terrorists during the anti-terror operation from across the border in Jammu and Kashmir.

5. Bhopal: 4 children killed, 2 injured as mud mound caves in

Four children were killed and two others injured after a mound of mud caved-in at Barkhedi village under Sukhi Sevania police limits in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal district on Monday. According to sources, the incident took place this when seven children of the same village were digging out mud from ground near a canal.

6. Samsung vice chairman appears in court over bribery charges

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-Yong appeared at a court on Monday for the first time in ten months for a hearing in his ongoing bribery trial.Lee was sentenced to five years in prison in 2017 for offering 8.6 billion won (7 million US dollars) in bribes to former South Korean President Park Geun-hye and one of her longtime confidants while seeking government support for a 2015 merger.

7. 22 ex-envoys back France amid Islamist protests

In the backdrop of protests in various Indian cities by some Muslims following recent Islamist attacks in France and French President Emmanuel Macron's reaction, a group of 22 former Indian Ambassadors expressed solidarity with the country, saying "India stands with France at this difficult moment". The group in a statement also said that they fully support the government of France over its move against terrorist activities by radical Islamists.

8. Early data signals COVID-19 vaccine is effective: Pfizer

Pfizer says an early peek at its vaccine data suggests the shots maybe 90 per cent effective at preventing COVID-19, indicating the company is on track later this month to file an emergency use application with U.S. regulators. Authorities have stressed it's unlikely any vaccine will arrive much before the end of the year, and limited initial supplies will be rationed.

9. NCB conducts raids at premises of actor Arjun Rampal in Mumbai

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Monday conducted raids at residence and office premises of actor Arjun Rampal in Mumbai. The raids are still underway.Earlier in the day, film producer Firoz Nadiadwala's wife and four drug peddlers who were arrested by NCB in a drug-related case on Sunday were taken for their medical examination.

10. IND vs AUS: Rohit Sharma likely to travel to Australia for Test series

India opener and Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is set to be a part of the Australia series that follows the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. But he will not be flying with the rest of the team on November 11. He will join them later with an eye on the Test series. Speaking to media, sources in the know of developments in the Indian team said that the batsman will need a little more time before he can go full throttle.
