1. Nagrota encounter: Security tightened near Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu

Security has been tightened near Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra after the encounter in Jammu's Nagrota on Thursday in which four terrorists were neutralised. The encounter between terrorists and security forces broke out in the early hours of Thursday near Ban Toll Plaza in the Nagrota area of Jammu district. The encounter lasted for three hours in which four terrorists were eliminated

2. Complete curfew in Ahmedabad from tonight till Monday morning

In a drastic move to stem the COVID-19 spread in Ahmedabad after a spike in cases, authorities have decided to impose a 57-hour-long weekend curfew in municipal limits from Friday night, said officials on Thursday. The curfew in Ahmedabad city will start from Friday (Nov 20) at 9 pm and end on Monday (Nov 23) at 6 am, the officials said.

3. Sonia Gandhi advised to briefly shift out of Delhi in view of her chronic chest infection: Sources

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been advised to shift out of Delhi for a few days to avoid the heavy pollution in the national capital in view of her chronic chest infection, party sources said on Friday. Gandhi may shift to either Goa or Chennai for a few days, they added. The sources said she was likely to shift out Friday afternoon and would be accompanied by either Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

4. COVID-19 caseload in India breaches 90-lakh mark

India's COVID-19 caseload surpassed the 90-lakh mark on Friday with 45,882 new cases, while the recoveries surged to 84.28 lakh pushing the national recovery rate to 93.6 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The total coronavirus cases mounted to 90,04,365 and the death toll climbed to 1,32,162 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 584 lives in a span of 24 hours in the country, the data updated at 8 am showed.

5. Non-bailable warrants against Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Raj Babbar, 7 others

Lucknow's special MP-MLA court has ordered the issuance of non-bailable warrants against nine people, including BJP MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Congress leaders Raj Babbar and Pradeep Jain Aditya. Summoning the Hazratganj Station house officer (SHO) to the court on December 8, the apex body has demanded an explanation from him as to why the court's order was not complied with.

6. 'Love jihad' bill against soul of constitution: AIMWPLB chief

Social worker and Chairman of All India Muslim Women's Personal Law Board (AIMWPLB), Shaista Amber on Thursday stating the meaning of the word 'jihad' termed 'love jihad' bill against the soul of the constitution. In a statement, Amber objected to the bill saying that it is the duty of all citizens to safeguard the Constitution of India and protect the Indian culture, however passing the 'love jihad' bill sends a wrong message in the county.

7. Netflix makes streaming free for Dec 5-6 weekend in India

Streaming giant Netflix on Friday announced to make its platform free for the December 5-6 weekend in India. Anyone in India can watch all the blockbuster films, the biggest series, award-winning documentaries and reality shows for two days, starting from 12 midnight on December 5.Last month, the OTT streaming company announced plans to give its users in India access to free streaming for a weekend.

8. Sainik schools in Haryana open their doors to girls

Following the Ministry of Defence's instructions that 10 per cent of the total vacancies in schools or minimum 10 seats should be reserved for girls, the Rewari, Kunjpura and Karnal army schools are preparing to induct girls in class 6 from the upcoming academic session. To promote the participation of women in the army, for the first time in the 57-year-old history of Army School, it has been decided to give admission to girls.

Mexico passed the 100,000 mark in COVID-19 deaths, becoming only the fourth country to do so amid concerns about the lingering physical and psychological scars on survivors.
